The number of additional dwelling units allowed as a consent use on application depends on the size of the property, with 1 additional dwelling unit allowed in all circumstances and a further one dwelling unit per additional 10 hectares up to a maximum of 5 dwelling units. The maximum size allowed for an additional dwelling unit is 175m2. It might be possible to apply, as a departure, to the municipality to use the main dwelling as a guesthouse. In such a case there is nothing stopping you to use the additional dwelling unit as self-catering guest units.
